BernatCatala 01Born in Barcelona in 1993, Bernat Català is a pianist and dedicated music educator whose career spans both performance and teaching.

After completing his undergraduate studies at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMuC), he pursued further training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music in London, with the generous support of the Pedro i Pons Foundation, the Güell Foundation, and the Royal Academy of Music. In 2017, he relocated to Switzerland to specialise in music pedagogy at the Haute École de Musique de Genève.

Bernat Català has had the privilege of studying with a number of distinguished teachers, including Maria Jesús Crespo, Peter Bithel, Diana Ketler, Luiz de Moura Castro, and Sylviane Deferne, whose expert guidance has significantly shaped his artistic journey.

As a soloist, he regularly performs in venues such as the Palau de la Música and the Fundación Juan March and is often invited to perform at festivals and concert seasons throughout Spain, France, Switzerland, Italy, and the United Kingdom. His artistry has been recognised with multiple awards in national and international competitions, including first prize at the Jeunesses Musicales de Catalunya (Spain), third prize at the Sobrio Festival (Switzerland), and the Adolphe Neumann Prize from the City of Geneva (Switzerland).

As a member of the Caravaggio Piano Quartet, Bernat Català has received the Prix Burri at the Festival des Nations (Italy) and the Italian Music Critics Association Prize in 2019. The quartet was trained at the Accademia Perosi in Biella (Italy), under the mentorship of the Atos Trio, and regularly performs in distinguished venues across Italy.

Bernat Català also collaborates with saxophonist Antonio Sola Corpas in performing works from the chamber music repertoire, transcribed for saxophone and piano.

His passion for composition, cultivated through studies in classical harmony, fugue, and counterpoint with composers Xavier Boliart and Alessandro Timossi, has led him to create numerous works for solo piano, as well as various chamber and choral ensembles.

Currently based in Switzerland, Bernat Català balances his solo career, chamber music engagements, and his role as a dedicated piano teacher. He serves as a professor at the Cercle Lémanique d’Études Musicales and as President of the Alfred Cortot Musical Association in Nyon.
